With the sudden outburst of sunshine in the UK, would be the perfect time for my summer beauty essentials. Even though it was (clearly) short lived it’s just in time for your summer travels where we all want to look like the effortless beach babe and not like the overcooked lobster (lets be honest we’ve all been there).
Starting with skincare, one thing that everyone needs in summer: sunscreen. Coola’s sunscreenthat I discovered last year on one of many trips to Sephora and me being me forgot to take skin protection to Santa Monica beach in 90c heat, so this came as a godsend being factor 50 and it also smells amazing, seriously smells like summer in a bottle. Another skincare must for the evenings or after a cool shower to wash the sea salt out of your hair is Sol De Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum creamit leaves your skin silky smooth with a subtle shimmer that leaves your skin glowing and hydrated.
Moving on to the more nighttime summer skincare, a must for your face after a long day at the beach or a day in the sun, is hydration because even with the ton of water you’re drinking it’s always good to give your face that little extra, so we can all wake up in the morning like Cher from clueless. I always reach for the Tatcha water creamor the Kopari coconut melt, both essentially do the same thing but it depends on your price range and your personal preference of the product. But before the hydration I always love to use a good serum, two I reach for the most in the summer are the Glossier Super Glowand the Estee Lauder advanced night repair, depending on the day the night repair is the best for after a long day at the beach where you may not have used just enough sun protector on your face and are borderline on the verge of lobster face, trust me this will clear that up over night and no one will be able to tell the next day. The Glossier however is more for that extra summer Glow in the morning when you just want to look radiant and well rested.
I’m not really one for wearing too much makeup whilst in the Sun but if you’re heading out for the evening or just want to look like you’ve made a little more effort for your day I tend to reach for The It Cosmetics CC creamvery light coverage but just makes your skin look flawless. I also tend to reach for the Nars Highlighter Palettejust for that extra beachy sun kissed glow. Lip wise I like to keep it simple with a little glitter from glossier (bonus points if you put it on your lids too) with the Balm dotcom; run the brows over with a quick boy browand you’re good to go.
Fragrance is a real key to my summer and Holidays every perfume or candle reminds me of a different place or a time in my life that always puts a smile on my face. My go to scents for this year are Tom Ford soleil Blanc honestly just smells like LA to me also the Byredo Gypsy Water hairperfume that just transports me to the clear blue waters of Greece. Another Summer Must is a great candle; Diptique Mimosais one of my most loved scents that remind me of so many amazing trips and times in my life.
Haircare Wise I tend to not do a lot I usually just stick it up In a messy bun or just leave it to curl with the sea water. But there is one thing that I do love in the summer and that’s the Ouai wave spray, or as I call it beach waves in a bottle, you just spray it in after your shower whilst your hair’s still damp and give it a quick scrunch and ta dah natural beachy waves, trust you’re going to want to stock up on this.
Ciao xx
