As the shows for Spring/Summer 2019 have come to a close I thought I’d share some of my favourite looks and trends that caught my eye, unfortunately from afar.
One of my favourites as usual was the Zimmermann show it’s always so floral but this year was full of paisleys and high necklines and of course the classic ruffled dresses and shirts that you can’t help love and want to buy the entire collection (this coming from the girl who recently gave into the need to buy a Zimmermann dress . . . oops).
Another trend that seems to be coming this coming spring and summer is metallic prints and a lot of bright colours Gucci being the leader of the trend which tbh I wasn’t actually a fan of their collection this season but it may have just been the way the show was set out in a rather dark theatre which was a really impressive place to have a runway show but not really my style of show. Also Saint Laurent seemed to be a contender with the metallic with their jackets.
My favourite show of the whole season has to be Dior and I know a lot of people said the lighting was rather dark for the show but the show itself was amazing everything from the dance performance to the accessories were just perfect. The dresses were still in style of the last season shape with the sheer netting skirts and the bandeau top but instead they added a new element of a fishnet vibe, which gave the looks a darker colour scheme. My favourite part of the show was actually the accessories with the logo belt that is definitely following in the footsteps of Gucci and the chokers like the last season but that looks more like a cuff.
A big trend that I will definitely be taking part in is the pastel colours and the crochet with eyelets this was a major theme of the Alberta Ferretti show and slightly a part Zimmerman as well. The looks are so summery and lightweight and looks like the perfect look for the warmer weather but also looks like you’ve made that much more effort with your look, when in reality you probably just came back from the pool and you’re late for dinner.
Another particular theme I noticed, which was a slight surprise for the spring and summer shows was a lot of dark colours the main theme for a lot of the shows (Saint Laurent) was black which I’m not saying is a bad trend it’s just when you think of spring and summer its when everyone starts to pull out their bright coloured wardrobe staples. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see until next year to see the full extent of what fashion trends we want to integrate into our collections and from what I’ve seen I cant wait (mainly for the new Dior collection).
