Worth The Hype

There are hundreds of beauty + make up brands and don’t get me wrong most of them are amazing. And then there are so many that people rave about so much you’re like OMG I must have that if they love it so much its got to be amazing. So you get it or order it online and you wait and wait to get your hands on it, then it finally arrives and you’re so hyped when it’s finally time to try it out, so you do the rest of your skincare and make up absolutely flawless totally giving it 110% then you use it and it does not do what it said on the tin and what everyone else said it did, and your left with patchy skin or it running down your face half way through the day. Which then makes you question yourself, kind of like a bad break up, was it me? What did I do wrong? But then if the role is reversed and the product is good it completely changes you life, it’s like gaining a limb you didn’t know you were missing or the first time you fill in your eyebrows and finally understand why everyone else is so obsessed, and then it becomes your Holy Grail item permanently attached to your make-up bag.

So here are my ‘Holy Grail’ items that are 100% worth the hype (in my opinion). And hey if these items don’t work for you and you’re like what the hell is she on about I promise you I’m not lying to you or being paid to tell you I love them, when clearly everyone knows that it sucks, I just genuinely love these items and thought id share them with you.

Glossier -
One of the newer beauty brands on the scene that’s just started to grow over the past year, but there’s really no questioning why when you get your hands on some of their products. Not only do they come in the cutest packaging (it’s all about the stickers) they are 100% cruelty free and vegan, and they work. I swear by their skin solution it completely cleared up my skin + stops any breakouts from surprise attacking my face, and to be honest with you I’ve never really had bad skin but I know people who have and this stuff has completely changed their skin leaving them flawless.

My Favourite Products:
\   Serum –all of them are amazing

Fresh –
Another one of my favourite skincare based brands is fresh, they are also cruelty free + are made of completely natural ingredients. Their packaging is fairly simple but its way more about what’s inside, their natural products are like a breath of fresh air for you skin that keep you looking radiant.

My Favourite Products:
\   Lip Scrub
\   Lip balms

Urban Decay –
Since I really started to get more into makeup I remember everyone, myself included, being obsessed with the Urban Decay Naked palettes and yes they are totally worth the hype they are given.  They are so pigmented and longwearing that is the perfect texture for blending. They are a complete investment and give you hundreds of different looks just with one palette.  Urban Decays makeup gives you the perfect coverage for a flawless look, whether you want full coverage or light coverage, they really just cover all bases (pun fully intended).

My Favourite Products:
\   Eye Primer

Nars – I would say that Nars has been my go to brand for the longest; it’s that brand that you just never part with like your first love that never really leaves you. It’s such a timeless brand that’s products are always worth the extra money. They honestly do the best blushers, bronzers, lipsticks and are known for their extravagant names for their products. It’s just the one!!

My Favourite Products:
\   Long Hot Summer Eye Pallet (sold out)

It Cosmetics – Another one of my slightly newer loves, that has made its way into my collection over the past year and a half. It started out with one of the travel size CC creams from the isle of doom in Sephora and instantly fell in love with it (you know I went back for the full size and probably slightly more things from the isle of doom). Their products are so light coverage and leave with you a slight natural glow like you’ve been on that long spa retreat for the weekend.

My Favourite Products:

Too Faced – Too Faced is all about the Fun. The bright colours of the packaging and the scented pallets that are truly adorable, it adds slightly more fun to putting on your makeup. My first love for Too Faced started with The Better Than Sex Mascara, which is amazing and defiantly worth the bold name choice. Too Faced is slowly but surely making its way to one of my favorite Brands.

My Favourite Products:

Becca – Highlighter!! That’s all you need and Becca is for sure my go to for a good highlighter. Becca has for sure mastered the perfect balance for that Summer Glow with their powder and liquid highlighters, that don’t make you look like a glitter bomb went off in your face. They give you that extra shine without going totally OTT.

My Favourite Products:
\   Champagne Pop Highlighter (tip: does not travel well)

Charlotte Tilbury – Slightly more on the pricier side of the market but you couldn’t argue with the quality of their products. Trust me you will never regret spending the money on Charlotte Tilbury, their products are so luxurious and leave you with a flawless face of make-up, they can do both high coverage and light coverage perfectly and are for sure always going to be apart of my Holy Grail selection. I am never un-stocked from their light wonder it’s the best base that gives you just enough coverage without being cakey looking, making you look like you’re not wearing any makeup at all.

Outfit of the week

We all go through that phase where you find that one perfect outfit or find something deep inside your wardrobe that you forget you had + you just end up wearing it non- stop until you finally start to hate it or you can’t get away with not washing it anymore.  My loves this week come in the form of mom jeans (standard), a chunky white knit jumper, a classic slim fit waist belt + a pair of loafers.

Even though it is actually starting to warm up in the UK (finally… for a second I was starting to look like Casper), it’s still not what I would class as warm on an evening so my chunky knit jumper is the best thing to throw on to give you that extra cosy vibe when the sun goes down, it also really highlights that slight tan with the white giving you the I’ve been tanning all day on the beach feels.

I’ve been loving my mom jeans so much, they are the perfect trouser for when you don’t want the restriction of the glued skinny jeans to your legs on a hot day, but with mom jeans you have that extra bit of room and they’re the perfect when you’re not quite that ready + brave to get your pasty legs out.

Of course it’s not a shock my go to shoe of the week is my loafers, they really are the perfect shoe to just throw on + just adds a little extra touch to your outfit that makes you look like you made more of an effort than you actually did.

My go to accessories for this week comes in as a pair of Fendi mirrored sunglasses + a thin chain choker from Are you am I that is permanently glued to my neck, if you know me personally you know I never take it off.

So it’s a really simple outfit that’s so easy to just chuck on that’s perfect for that summer evening drive and a late night walk in the countryside.

Beach waves and UV Rays

Once again it comes to the time of year where we all get sick of the rain and being confined to within three feet of a radiator and decide to venture further a field just so we can get a tan that lasts not nearly as long as we hoped, and it’s acceptable to drink a margarita for breakfast.  But honestly the summer holidays have always been my favourite time, ever since I was little with my first holiday to France when I was one. In the sun has always been my happy place no matter where I am (unless I’m at work).

I’m pretty sure everyone has those certain stories from previous holidays that either completely embarrass you or laughing until your crying. I could tell you thousands of stories of the holidays I’ve been on from drunken stair climbing in Greece to Spain when I was three years old when my sister fell in the pool with all her toys and I thought I needed a better look by putting my head through the concrete railings, which I can tell you is where I stayed for two hours unable to move my head. Now when my parents tell that story its never “Oh you remember when you got your head stuck in the balcony railings” and never a mention of how she fell in the pool (insert covered eye emoji here)

The one thing I always associate with certain holidays is music, when you hear a certain song and it takes you back to that one place or memory. And yes backstreet boys “Everybody (Backstreets back)” does remind me of a certain holiday, and JLO’s “Jenny from the block”. For me music is the start point for a good holiday, you know if you’ve got a great playlist lined up, you’re gonna have a good time.  My favorite holidays always have a theme song/s; it’s like making your own personal soundtrack to the movie that is your life.

Spain – Beyoncé crazy in love/ The Killers Andy you’re a star
Wandering down a million stairs to the beach that we spent about at least 8 hours at everyday only coming off briefly to get an orangina or because we’d spent way to long in the sun and we started to look like lobsters.  Then spending the rest of the day sleeping (baking in a darkened room and regretting the factor 15) and listening to The Killers until it was time to put on more after sun or dinner.

France – Backstreet Boys – Everybody
Driving to France and traveling on the ferry whilst rocking my legs in my car seat to many a backstreet boy album or some 80’s disco music with some Shania Twain mixed in occasionally (on a steady diet of breadsticks and raisins)

Greece (Lefkada) – 5 Seconds of Summer, if you don’t know
This song reminds me of driving around Greece in our open top Suzuki past the boat yard and through the Greek mountains towards Porto Katsiki beach when a Bee got into the car and we had to stop on the road to let it out.

LA part I - DNCE, Cake by the ocean/ Arianna Grande, Dangerous woman/ Nick Jonas, Close
Driving around West Hollywood stopping to get an Iced almond milk Matcha latte and a oatmeal raisin cookie at Urth Caffe (dropping one on the floor outside, and having to go back for another) Walking into Sephora and spending a minimum of $200 a shop.

LA part II - Fool, Fitz & the tantrum/ Attention Charlie Puth/ Can’t stop the feeling, Justin Timberlake
Screaming along driving to Shake Shack not knowing the words to Fool and making up our own. Walking around Santa Monica during the eclipse whilst freezing our asses off.  Walking down Melrose with an Alfred jumping in between Reformations deciding whether to get another Alfred.

NYC – Deluka, Home
Sat in the New York Edition watching greys anatomy and the Carrie Diaries laughing at our pictures of each other throughout the day looking more and more jet lagged munching on a bag of ruffles.

Sacramento – Alt- J, Breezeblocks
Driving with some of my best friends in an old vintage white Beetle trying to race the people in the car next us on the way home from the mall screaming along to Alt- J (It’s safe to say we didn’t win + it’s amazing how we didn’t get pulled over).

Yosemite – Miley Cyrus, We can’t stop/ Robin Thicke, Blurred lines/ Pharrell, Get lucky
Driving up to Yosemite living on a diet of Arizona ice tea, winter green lifesavers and Cheetos. Sleeping under the stars all night watching the shooting stars and listening to the coyotes in the distance.

San Francisco – One Republic, Counting Stars/ One Direction, Best Song ever
Walking around Alcatraz on the hottest day of the year, tearing apart my ankles wearing the wrong shoe choice. Spending an evening at AT +T Park watching the baseball and having to buy the best purchase of my life Giants merchandise socks to keep my feet from rubbing anymore.

Greece || John Mayer, Lana Del Rae, Burning Desire/ Ed Sheeran, Bloodstream
Still Driving around Greece, stopping for iced coffees and Ice cream. Listening to the electric storms on a night whilst watching Twin Peaks (freaking out about crazy Bob when you hear a noise outside).

This year’s playlist so far:

\     Charlie Puth – Done for me
\     The 1975 – Milk
\     James Bay – Pink Lemonade
\     John Mayer – New Light
\     Selena Gomez – Back to you

\     Miguel – Told you so + Pineapple Skies
\     Kygo + Miguel – Remind me to forget
